This kind of statement is one of those statements .....much/most of Africa...... Africa is a vast continent but that is besides the point, multiple sex partners from a practical view point, occurs regardless of the above scenario. A generalised statement such as "a large portion of the continent.." is one of the statements I have gotten used to hearing. I come from Africa, and a culture where promiscuity is frowned upon, and I know several cultures within my region where similar view holds true. I am almost certain there are no tribal traditions where promiscuity is actively promoted. As I said before the choice for sex with multiple partners is an individual choice, except may be in Islam. Do you have the breakdown of Moslems, Christians and traditional believers in Africa, for without such information it becomes difficult to make the kind of statement you make above. I have lived in North America a few years now, and I don't see any glaring difference in sexual behaviours.
