It all depends on your mail agent.  Some download the entire text in
the mailbox, and then display the subjects; some just get the subject
line and if you reauest to see the email it will download the body of
text.  PINE for instance can be configuerd for both modes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but once it is in your inbox, you are already charged with the volumn for it, if you are on a time and volumn charge basis. Thus no saving in cost by not reading long message, only opportunity for saving is keeping positng short.
