    Country Coordinator - Private Sector Information Service
           Poland, Czech Republic and Slovak Republic

The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern  Europe
(REC) is now accepting applications from individuals or proposals
from  organizations to act as a country coordinator for  its  new
private sector information service.  The new information  service
will facilitate the exchange of information between the users and
the  providers of environmental management practices,  processes,
and  technologies.  The positions will be located  in  the  local
country.

BACKGROUND: The REC is an independent, non-advocacy, non-profit environmental foundation. The REC's mission is to promote coop- eration among diverse environmental groups and interests in CEE to include NGOs, governments, businesses, academic institutions, and the media. The REC is active in 13 countries from Latvia to Albania. Program activities include grants, fellowships, informa- tion exchange and policy analysis.

CRITERIA: The candidates will be located in the country and should meet the following criteria: 1. be fluent in English and local language (Czech, Polish, or Slovak - both written and oral). 2. have access to computer and communication facilities (tele- phone and fax). 3. have an understanding of environmental business issues in their country. 4. have an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the local co-ordinator will include three major tasks: TASK 1: Develop a directory of environmental companies working in country. 1. Translate the company profile form (layout and codes) provided by the REC from English to local language. 2. Contact up to 300 environmental companies from existing data sources interested in working with foreign partners. The REC will provide information on 150 environmental companies. 3. Fill out corporate profile form for each company and provide the results in both print and computer format (MS Excel).

TASK 2. Assist the REC HQ in organizing one conference for 50-75 representatives for the environmental businesses communi- ty. 1. Identify local potential conference partners or sponsors and establish agreements 2. Assist with creating meeting agenda, identify and organize speakers, coordinate conference location and make administra- tive arrangements 3. mail out guest invitations and organize responses 4. prepare and publish conference proceedings 5. coordinate pre- and post- conference meetings

TASK 3: Respond to miscellaneous information requests via the REC HQ and Local office.
