Dear fellows,

I am a doctoral student (oceanography) from Venezuela. In my view, the killing of any species, including dolphins, is not acceptable. This is only my opinion. Humans do kill other animals (cows, pigs, etc) but these are replenished by commercial means. This is not the case for most marine species (dolphins or otherwise). My point here is not defend or accuse anyone here. My point is to get the facts from both sides of the story. There are, I suppose, several fisherman in Venezuela who could offer a more direct account of the facts.

If there are any "official" versions of the story about the alledged killing of dolphins in Venezuelan waters by Venezuelan (or otherwise) nationals, please tell us where to find them the references. If dolphins are being killed, then actions must be taken but let us not jump to conclusions before we have a chance to examine the facts. Venezuela doess have a law protecting the environment. Whether it is actively enforced or not, that is an important question.
