The  Open  Society Institute Forced  Migration  Projects  monitor
circumstances  in  different  regions of the world  in  order  to
provide the international community with early warning of  forced
movements  of people, and to identify the social, economic,   and
political  conditions  which may cause  such  dislocations.   The
Projects encourage early and effective humanitarian responses  to
migration  emergencies;  advocate the humane treatment  of  those
unable  to return; urge permanent solutions for those  displaced;
and promote measures that avert individuals' need to flee.

The Forced Migration Projects is currently seeking an Information Coordinator.

Duties: Under the direction of the Director and Associate Direc- tor of Forced Migration Projects, the Information Coordinator is responsible for:

* utilizing, maintaining and expanding a database of 6,000 sub- scribers for the Monitor newsletter, including monthly updating the press and colleague listings, and implementing dissemina- tion strategies; * maintaining a database, records, and files of Projects' con- sultants and assisting in drafting agreements and handling correspondence with and payments to consultants; * developing and implementing strategies to disseminate Projects' publications; * organizing and maintaining library collections,including na- tional and international subscriptions and related files; * updating files and maintaining databases on Projects' matters; * liaison with various administrative offices within the Open Society Institute; * preparing reports of Projects' activities and calendars of upcoming Projects' events; * preparing briefing materials and research for missions and projects; and * performing various administrative tasks, including word-pro- cessing, formatting of reports, mailings, proofreading and other assignments as requested.

Qualifications:

The candidate must possess;

* full knowledge of database software including MS Excel, MS Access, including importing and exporting data files as well as other types of software packages and information storage and retrieval methods for documents in hardcopy and electronic form; * excellent attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; * excellent written and oral communication skills.

In addition, the following qualifications would be useful:

* familiarity with Internet-related applications including "web browsers", "list-serve" functions, HTML; * knowledge of the region of the former Soviet Union; or * knowledge of Russian.
