ECOTOURISM AS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

A Panel Discussion

Ecotourism. First-world fad or legitimate sustainable development? Can the basic needs for environmental protection, economic development and tourism be reconciled to create an industry in which everyone’s a winner? Get the facts and a policy perspective: The Women’s Council for Energy and the Environment will hold a brownbag luncheon on ecotourism on April 9. The panelists include:

The Honorable Oscar Acuna, Minister for Tourism and Environmental Relations of the Embassy of Costa Rica.

Chief Economist Jorge Roldan of the Inter-American Investment Corporation.

Mr. Steve Loucks, Director of Public Relations, American Society of Travel Agents.

Our diverse panel will bring differing private sector and public policy perspectives to an informal and friendly discussion. Discussion points include: the current definition of ecotourism; the financing and structure of successful projects; and the missing communications or involvement that prevent the growth of this emerging industry.

Please join us on April 9, 1997 from 12 to 1:30 pm, at Bracewell & Patterson, 2000 K Street NW, (Suite 500) Washington DC at a special one-time cost of $5 for WCEE members and $10 for non-WCEE members. Please reserve early on the hotline - 703/208-1469. Beverages and cookies provided.
