The Least of These
Program Highlights--April 14, 1997
HCJB-The Voice of the Andes

Child labor around the world: there is some hopeful news coming out of an international conference, as Ralph Kurtenbach reports. However, on the ground, the reports are less encouraging. Curt Cole reports some on some disturbing statistics from Brazil. Malaria is one of the biggest killers world wide. Work is underway to try to overcome this dreaded disease. Harry Forestall reports from London. In the United States, the United Methodist church operates over 160 "Shalom zones," areas where churches are reaching out in troubled, low-income neighborhoods. We will talk with Miki DeHollander at Coconut Grove United Methodist Church in Miami and Rev. Jim Hamilton at Sepulveda United Methodist Church in Los Angeles about their experiences and successes working with the Shalom program in their neighborhoods. The Least of These is a weekly radio program produced by HCJB, The Voice of the Andes in Quito, Ecuador, South America. The title of the program comes from the biblical reference in Matthew 25:40 where Jesus Christ said, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to me. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

The Least of These is broadcast on HCJB, The Voice of the Andes on the following Schedule:

To The South Pacific: 10:00 UTC on 9645 kHz To Europe: 20:00 UTC on 12015 kHz (may also be heard in Africa and Middle East) To The Americas: 2 and 5:00 (UTC Tuesday), (10 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday Eastern Daylight Time) 9745 kHz
