I received the below email from Marten Soerensen in Denmark. For many years, he's worked botanically and agronomically with especially promising tubers such as <Pachyrhizus> and <Sphenostylis>. He is now seeking info on <Walleria nutans>, about which we have no information. Please feel free to post this note to newsgroups, etc. If you have any info, he can be reached at mailto:Marten.Soerensen@botge.kvl.dk.
Many thanks, Mark Dafforn National Academy of Sciences

The other matter may be of some interest to you - in a fairly recent book (Van den Eyden et al. 1992. "The Ethnobotany of the Topnaar") there is a brief description of a potentially very useful plant for the arid to semi-arid zones called Walleria nutans (Tecophilaeaceae). This is the first time I read about an edible plant belonging to this family producing potato-like tubers of a high dry matter content and which according to the authors are available for 10 months per year! (previously I only knew of the crocus like species from Chile). My question is: do you by any chance have any additional information on the plant or if at all possible any contacts from whom tubers or seeds may be obtained?
