I am seeking ideas about funding a road in a rural community in Jamaica. This rural farming community has a "road" that was built in the 1970's but never asphalted and subsequently never repaired. The community is presently cut off, and farmers have great difficulty getting their crops to the market. Absence of the road is also inhibiting access to possible health and education benefits. Young persons increasingly migrate to the cities, and a potentially prosperous community (with high quality/quantity farm produce, abundant water, and an energetic community organization) faces stagnation.
The road was identified as a pilot infrastructural project to be funded by the World Bank, but focus has shifted in the past months from micro to macro projects. The matter is sufficiently urgent to the community that they are not giving up hope. I would therefore appreciate hearing about funding possibilities that might bring the community approximately US$150,000 to provide 2.7 kilometres of road.
