The Microenterprise Best Practices Project (MBP) is sponsoring the
"Microfinance in the Wake of Disasters" Workshop for microfinance donors
and practitioners.

Date: May 14th Time: 10 am - 4 pm Location: The Grand Hyatt Washington at Washington Center, 1000 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001, Metro Center Registration: http://www.mip.org/jobs/jobs-def.htm

The primary objective of this workshop is to disseminate and discuss the research findings of two review papers recently completed under the USAID sponsored Microenterprise Best Practices Project (MBP): "Microfinance in the Wake of Natural Disasters" and "Microfinance in the Wake of Conflict," and to further the dialogue between microfinance and disaster practitioners and donors. Two expert groups will convene in the afternoon to discuss the role and challenges of microfinance in these environments and to develop an agenda for future research on these topics.

Invited panelists include experts from the World Bank, IFC, USAID's Microenterprise Development Office and the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, World Relief, Freedom from Hunger, The SEEP Network, Development Alternatives Inc., as well as other donor and practitioner organizations.

Copies of the papers will be available on the project web site at http://www.mip.org/pubs/pubs-def.htm prior to the workshop and bound versions will be available at the workshop. Once the papers are available, another announcement will be made.

The workshop is free of charge, but space is limited. The workshop proceedings will be posted on our web site at the end of the conference for those unable to attend the workshop.
