3 areas, see below, will be covered during the Virtual and Face-to-face conferences. However, while we expect that themes underlined will both include the various concerns of good governance and reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the International Conference, we welcome postings, abstracts or papers that fall outside the range of themes below as we would like the conference to catalyze a stimulating discussion and new down-to-earth ideas. These themes are:

Theme No. 1 : Lessons learnt from previous governments. This forum involves revisiting what we have learnt from past mistakes, challenging the negative impact of an authoritarian government, strong control and centralization, unsound actions and manners, and outdated system of governing, ...(under the guidance of: Profs. Jacques Bertrand, Christianto Wibisono, Ozay Mehmet, Martin Rudner and Stewart Sutley)

Theme No. 2. The approach of the current government (President Habibie and the Reformation Cabinet). This forum includes topics such as the people response to Reformation in fields such as Law, Bureaucracy, Electoral procedure, People's representation, Education, Corporate Life, Constitutional Review, Civil Society, Democracy, Environment, Gender, Economy, Financial Governance, etc. (under the guidance of: Profs. Daniel Lev, Donald K. Emmerson, Vincent Houben, Prof. Dawam Rahardjo, and Dr. David Harries).

Theme No. 3. The contribution of religious groups. This forum revolves around the contribution of Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and other faiths to bringing about good governance practises. As opposed to theoretical concepts, implementation and down to earth solutions are considered. Topics in Islamic and religious studies are welcome under this theme. (Under the guidance of: Profs. Nurcholish Madjid, Sheila McDonough, A. Ūner Turgay and H. Federspiel).
