LONG-TERM OPPORTUNITIES IN BANGLADESH

EUROPEAN CANDIDATES ONLY

Intermediate Technology Consultants Ltd., part of the Intermediate Technology Development Group, is currently looking for European Junior and Senior Experts for a long-term EC-funded resettlement and livelihood project in Bangladesh starting late Summer/early Autumn 1999. Candidates for the position of Junior Experts should fulfil the following requirements: * a graduate degree with specialisation in rural development * a minimum of 3 years field experience in planning, managing and monitoring rural development projects, including rural community based participatory approaches to development * fluent working knowledge of written and spoken English

The Junior Experts will provide operational support for the management and implementation of the project, including liaison with government agencies and local NGOs, participation in the selection of village sites, settler families and NGOs, arranging of field surveys and reporting. Candidates for the position of Senior Finance & Administration Specialists should fulfil the following requirements: * a graduate degree in business administration and/or accounting * a minimum of 10 years professional experience in financial management and accounting * experience with development projects in developing countries, preferably in rural areas * fluent working knowledge of written and spoken English

Preference will be given to candidates with experience of working in Bangladesh and with a knowledge of Bengali. Responsibilities will include timely preparation of all formal documentation to funding and approving bodies, monitoring of fund expenditure, audit of financial records, logistics, personnel and development and implementation of a management information system. Candidates for the position of Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist should fulfil the following requirements: * a graduate degree in a relevant social sciences subject * a minimum of 10 years experience in monitoring and evaluation, including information and database management * field experience with development projects in Asia or other developing countries, involving decentralised co-operation * ability in project cycle management, establishment of performance and impact indicators * fluent working knowledge of written and spoken English

Preference will be given to candidates with experience of working in Bangladesh and with a knowledge of Bengali. Responsibilities will include the design, refinement and maintenance of project monitoring systems including questionnaires, appraisal forms and other data recording formats, training of monitoring personnel and project staff, monitoring of project performance and impact, organisation of workshops, seminars and conferences.
