Dear George! I agree with you. There is an urgent necessity to discuss the global = development issues. Even if somebody wants to keep his eyes closed, = concentrating on his internal digestion, it does not mean that = development does not exist at all. And acceleration of the development = towards the global ecological catastrophe is frightening.=20

A managed development seems for somebody to remind a totalitarian = ideology. But those who can think can not help noticing an inevitable = development challenge that requires urgent and powerful preventive = measures just not to repeat the Rome Empire crash and not to fall into a = cultural decay for another thousand years of Gloomy Middle Ages.=20

An avalanche of 'Unsubscribe' messages gives a lot of information about = contemporary social psychology, and it is one of scientific results of = the started discussion. A shared by a group of thinking people vision of = the global development perspectives and the civilised ways to influence = on it may appear only after a similar discussion.

I wish you success and good luck,

I think that contending ideologies are very much alive. They have = shifted to the area of interaction between social, economic, and = environmental issues. Although the market system is becoming prevalent = in the world today, there are significant differences in the way various = countries are approaching these issues. A good example is the difference = between the USA and Europe on Kyoto.=20
Issues such as equity and fairness have migrated from income concerns = to a much wider arena, that of the physical environment - the management = of resources. Shifts in the valuation of the environment in = industrialised countries are having an effect on how developing = countries plan to use their natural resources, opening development paths = which could be more equitable in socio-economic and environmental ways =
    (eco-tourism, fair trade etc.).
In a more global economy, development decisions are interlinked, and = this time it will take a change in ideology and lifestyles in the North = and the South to reach a liveable future for all...Global warming sets = the pace, as there is no longer any time for 'us and them'.=20

The question of "development" was interesting when there were two = contending ideologies in the world: Market capitalism, and centralized = communism. With the seeming demise of communism, what are the issues to = be discussed? The debate, even in China, is to what extent accept the = rule of the market. Cuba is the only believer left. Could anyone shed = some light on the issues of development today?
