REQUEST: For a donation or Soft Loan to publish two books, one or Upper Primary ages 10-12, and lower Secondary Ages 13-15.
The first book "Hare on The Hill Top" Book 1A ISBN-9966-9923-6 was first published in December 1994.
Estimated Cost of publishing 10,000/= of each title is Ksh. 250/= Cost for 2 books for 500/=
This figure includes cost of illustrations and production of stories. It takes three months to produce one book.
Rationale of Producing the Books
1. To access information about contemporary issues of concern to the youth through story, poem telling and stories.
2. To create a forum for the children and the youth to express their personal feelings and experience about issues which concern them like, Birthday parties, Christmas and Easter experiences, Drug and Drug Abuse, Population, Rain and Drought, floors relationships with parents, Teachers, Neighbours, Misuse of Road and Road accidents, the Poor and the Rich, Street Children etc.
3. Procedure
Children meet every Saturday for one hour at Ufungamano House, Nairobi.
4. They Brainstorm on different Topics.
5. They express their views regarding the different topics verbally.
6. They select the specific area to write on from a wider topic.
7. They gather more information on the specific area through reading stories, poems, magazines.
8. They write stories/poems, which are rich in their own experiences and feelings. They create in stories and poem the world they would like to live in.
9. Poems are then edited and typed.
10. We wish to develop many books written by children and the youth to promote creative reading and writing in Kenya and also creative thinking.
11. This we believe is a noble project for children and the youth.
