The Landcare Research SAL Research Programme Web site has just been updated to outline the Integrated Systems for Knowledge Management (ISKM) approach. This participatory framework is designed to support communities in the identification and adoption of more sustainable resource/environmental/agriculture practices. This site can be accessed at:http://www.landcare.cri.nz/sal/
The ISKM approach is participatory in nature, recognising that resource management issues are increasingly characterised by multiple social perspectives. Because management options must be continually reshaped in response to everchanging ecological and socio-economic conditions it based on principles of active adaptive management. Research, extension and users (land managers, conservators, policy makers, etc.) are viewed as forming elements of one information system.
The two interactive phases [ i) Finding out about complex and dynamic situations; and ii) then taking action to improve them ] form the basis for developing the necessary learning environment to facilitate constructive and voluntary change.
Electronic mailing forms are available from these pages. Comments and feedback would be appreciated.
