A few years ago, the University of Warwick (Coventry, UK) was running a mechanical engineering degree programme in appropriate technology. The course was accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and was known as Engineering Design and Appropriate Technology.

I've no idea if it still exists. Hope this helps
