Hi,I am writing this in response to the seemingly inevitable irate unsub messages following in the wake of the recent MLM post.
I'm sure I get just as many emails each day as any other member of this list. The majority are information that I do not need or want- I have to sift subject lines. I don't read every post to devel-l because its subject matter is so broad. But that's one of the list's strengths, too- one can ask nearly any development related question of this community and receive a thorough, intelligent and helpful reply. The point is, anyone who really does get high volume email learns to delete either by subject line or by the first paragraph. One look at the subject line of that spam and it was in the bin. My mailbox is MUCH more cluttered by people talking about how angry they are about how cluttered their mailboxes are by spam. The average of one spam per month that gets through to devel-l is more than balanced by the input from the large base of expert subscribers.
Devel-l is one of the largest and best development-related mailing lists, period. If a subscriber has problems with the list and wants to unsub, that's really between him/her and the listowner and I'd rather not get THOSE messages. Where is the listowner's address? In that message you received when you signed on that probably said something along the lines of "please save this message in case you have problems with the list". Sending the command INFO DEVEL-L in the message body to mailto:LISTSERV@AMERICAN.EDU yields the message below.

There is no information file for the DEVEL-L list. Here is a copy of the list "header", which usually contains a short description of the purpose of the list, although its main purpose is to define various list configuration options, also called "keywords". If you have any question about the DEVEL-L list, write to the list owners at the generic address:
