FORUM ON DEVELOPING COUNTRIES URL: http://obelix.polito.it/forum/welcome.htm e-mail: mailto:forum@araxp.polito.itThe Forum on Developing Countries is aimed at providing information about architecture, planning, housing and, generally, habitat related issues in and for developing countries. It has a perspective on communication, training, education.
The Internet has indubitably a great potential in enhancing the communication amongst professionals working in and for the developing countries. The Forum is an attempt to make full use of the resources available on the net, as it puts together informal dialogue and structured information.
The informal dialogue takes place in discussion lists. The participants to the forum can send and exchange opinions and information on initiatives, researches, projects, etc. Everyone can participate: students, academics, consultants, organisations, universities, research centres, NGOs and whoever is interested in habitat in developing countries.
The structured information is presented in WWW pages, that summarise the debates and present new research. We are also experimenting with the possibilities offered by the most innovative communication tools available on the Internet, such as the use of audio, video, conferences.
The WWW pages are organised in five main sections:
1) ACTIVITIES AND RESEARCH research in progress and final reports - "your pages", pages offered by the Forum to individuals and organisations to present their activities - networks of researchers and professionals;
2) PERISCOPE a selection of links to other relevant sites
3) SCHOOLS, EDUCATION AND TRAINING information about courses, programmes, initiatives, etc. - repertory of thesis - debate area for teachers, trainers, motivators.
4) MANUAL DESIGN FOR SELF HELP BUILDING IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES how to write a self-help building manual and how to choose the best media, criteria and suggestions.
5) FOCUS the newsletter of the forum, also distributed by e-mail (request to: mailto:forum@araxp.polito.it)
