I have today received the announcement for the forthcoming meet-
ing of the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA). I
do not personal knowledge of ACVFA, but the announcement includes
the following background information:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Established by presidential directive after World War II, the
ACVFA is a non-governmental body composed of 20 U.S. citizens
with extensive knowledge of international development. ACVFA
members are appointed by the USAID Administrator. Public, quar-
terly ACVFA meetings serve as fora for consultation between the
public and private sectors."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
On September 10, 1996, the ACVFA will meet in the Loy Henderson
Auditorium of the U.S. Department of State from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. Program staff and other representatives of Private Volun-
tary Organizations (PVOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs),
universities, development agencies, foundations, and the public
are encouraged to attend.

The meeting is planned as a day-long symposium on the role of foreign assistance in U.S. foreign policy. Experts from diverse sectors of the U.S. public, as well as policymakers, foundation executives and journalists, have been invited to provide their views to the Advisory Committee.

Confirmed speakers include:

Brian Atwood - USAID Administrator * Ted Clark - National Public Radio * Charles Gray - AFL-CIO * Stephen Knaebel - Cummins Diesel/Mexico * Milton Morris - Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies * Stephen Rosenfield - The Washington Post * Dick Schubert - International Youth Foundation * Janet Thompson - Citibank

The Quarterly Report and recommendations from the June 12, 1996 meeting are now available.
