About two years ago, I had the privilege of attending a very thought-provoking
presentation by a Marguerite Robinson (I think) on the Bank Rakyat
Indonesia and a Latin American institution (Bancosol I think) where she
dicussed the achievements these two institutions have made in credit
delivery to microenterprises.

The two most striking features of the BRI operation as I recall were that:

a.) It was a no collateral scheme which nonetheless did not use the Grameen type community loan guarantee.

b.) It was strictly commercial. It made money and grew faster than most banks. No social conditions such as the Grameen Bank is known to impose were imposed on its clients.

I can't remember too much about Bancosol (I hope that's right); she discussed it second while I was still digesting the implications of the BRI model, but I do recall that it was a programme with many similarities to BRI.

For some reason, no transcript of the presentation was issued although we got some very impressive slide handouts. And I've no idea where I can find Ms. Robinson.

Can anybody help me either find Ms. Robinson or a resource on the BRI or the Bancosol or any such similar institution?

Many Regards
