---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 22 Aug 1997 21:05:49 GMT From: "Gerald R. Brown" <mailto:browner@cyberspc.mb.ca> Subject: [IASL-LINK]: IDSNetAs an organization working in the field of international development, I am writing to inform you of the International Development Studies Network - IDSNet. IDSNet is a web site designed for use by International Development Studies (IDS) departments at Universities across Canada. It provides relevant information on topics in development as well as an interactive forum for communication. The goal of IDSNet is to strengthen undergraduate IDS programs through information and knowledge sharing between students and faculty across the country - and internationally. And because IDSNet is a web site - anyone who is interested in international development issues can benefit from its resources and participate in its on-line forums. IDSNet is located at:
We encourage you to check out IDSNet. Most of you will find that we have a link to your organization's home page in our "Resources" section. As members of the development community we encourage the sharing of information on-line. For this reason, we ask that you include IDSNet as a link on your home page. IDSNet is designed in a manner that promotes maximum interactive contribution by its users. Those interested can easily submit research papers, links to relevant sites on the Internet, and their own opinions on development issues.
IDSNet contains:
-an on-line resource bank on development issues with links to information provided by NGOs, institutes, governments and individuals on topics such as population, aid, debt, health, etc. -announcements on events and speakers -postings of internships and jobs in development -information on the various IDS programs in Canada -a research paper database -newsgroups -chat forums -a database of students, faculty and others interested in development issues
The IDSNet initiative is part of a three-phase IDRC-supported program entitled a New Generation of Development Scholars and Practitioners. The third phase of the project got underway at the Canadian Consortium of University Programmers in International Development Studies (CUPPIDS) Summer Institute held at Guelph University in May, 1997. The Summer Institute brought together IDS students and faculty from the eleven different departments across the country to discuss how information technology could serve to strengthen IDS in Canada. It was here that IDSNet was designed and implemented.
