Sabre Foundation, Inc., headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts,
offers customized Internet training sessions for people from countries
in transition. The sessions are designed for individuals and small
groups and held at Sabre’s facility in Cambridge, MA. All skill levels
are welcome, and sessions can last from one day to one month, depending
on the scheduling needs of the participant. Sabre’s program has
attracted professionals and academics from various backgrounds, who have
found that the success of their projects and organizations is dependent
upon access to the Internet and its resources.

Customizing the programs to reflect the backgrounds and goals of each trainee is the hallmark of Sabre’s program. The materials and demonstrations are designed so that participants can directly apply the lessons to his or her area of interest, and hands-on training is emphasized. Examples of programs have included training librarians in library development and a “Training of Trainers” series. Sabre believes that off-site visits with professional counterparts are a valuable way to understand how the Internet is integrated into every facet of a democratic and market-oriented society, and it also provides networking opportunities for the trainee. As time allows, Sabre may arrange for one or several of such visits.

For people from countries in transition, the training seminars are provided at no charge. (Others may apply on a fees-basis.) Sabre encourages participants to find sponsors to cover the costs of travel to Boston and for room and board charges. Sabre is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization registered as a Private Voluntary Organization with USAID.
