Jay Hanson is essentially correct. Oil depletion will probably cause economic decline BEFORE the full impacts of climate modification, i.e., climate is probably a second order effect. Increased energy needed to respond to climate change may, in fact, quicken the pace of oil depletion and increase the need for alternative sources of energy.Climate change would increase the use of oil for environmental modification such as air conditiioning. Also, the cost of major infrastructure redeployment, caused by the change in mean sea level in coastal zones where most of the human population and infrasturcture are located, will also require additional oil-based fuels to either move or re-build the infrastructure. Rehabilitation costs from the increase in severe storms would require more energy.
In light of the above, climate change does not appear to ameliorate oil depletion in any way and may increase the rate. .
