VICE PRESIDENT FOR RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND
EDUCATION
Heifer Project International, headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas and founded in 1944, is a faith-based, $15 mil Pri
ate Voluntary Organization, which works in 37 countries including the USA. H.P.I. aims to strengthen families through in
ome generation; improved nutrition and
sustainable development; build communities; and protect the environment. "Not a Cup, but a Cow" is the formula which gov
rns HPI. Micro credit in the form of 16 kinds of animals (e.g., a cow, a llama, a sheep or a pig) makes a huge differe
ce in the lives of poor families. HPI asks beneficiaries to "pass on the gift" give the first female offspring to ano
her family.
Funds come from churches (30%), governments(10%), individuals (30%), foundations (10%), business (10%), and sales of go
ds and services (10%), of which three-fourths goes directly to help the poor.
Successful candidates should possess a proven track record in either direct response marketing or major gift solicitatio
. Cross-cultural sensitivity, experience working with volunteers, capacity to manage a diverse staff, and someone comf
rtable working with church groups is essential. Also, proven participatory and collegial leadership experience someone w
o is both
effective and can have fun on the job with a great sense of humor
would be ideal. Four (4) senior professionals report to the VP of Resource Development and Education in Little Rock as
ell as five (5) Regional Development Directors located around the U.S. The new VP of
Resource Development and Education will be a member of the five-person Executive Management Team chaired by the Preside
t.
A team player with high-energy and above-average organizational skills is essential; analytical experience and some math
aptitude important. Some strategic planning and budget skills necessary. Stand-up presentation skill (especially the abi
ity to project the excitement and spirit
of HPI) is vital. Also, the new VP helps to design and evaluate HPI's educational materials (designed to raise awareness
of world hunger issues). Computer-literacy and willingness to travel both stateside and overseas required (25% domestic
travel and at least one overseas trip
per year). A gifted, caring professional able to add value to HPI and committed to helping the poor help themselves is n
eded.
A nationwide search is now underway. For further information about HPI, our web site is http://www.heifer.org. Candidate
