RAINING OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE!SIFAT (Servants in Faith and Technology / Southern Institute for Appropriate Technology) has immediate openings for students in the fall term practicum. Due to the recent bombings in Kenya and Tanzania, 39 foreign embassies have been closed making it impossible for our foreign students to obtain visas and travel to the United States. Therefore, we would like to extend an invitation to others interested in practical training and Christian community development. This course is especially designed for those involved in missionary service and those coming from the Third World that are working in community development. Classes are small in size so that we are able to provide training for individual needs and interests.
The course is divided into the following units:
1. Christian Community Development 2. Health and Sanitation / Nutrition and Food 3. Alternative Energy 4. Low-input Agriculture 5. Alternative Construction and Carpentry 6. Communication / Media 7. Village Industry / micro-enterprise - Village and Homemaking Skills 8. Water and Pumps 9. Planning, Project and Proposal Writing, Networking Fundraising and Administration Micro industry, Village Skills, Cooperatives 10. Education and Leadership Development 11. Spiritual Formation
The complete course runs from August 31 - November 20, 1998. It is possible to attend some of the units separately within the complete course. The cost of the twelve-week course is $1800 US, which covers room, board, tuition and transportation from major air, bus, or train terminals. Partial scholarships are available to qualifying students.
SIFAT is a Christian, non-profit, non-denominational organization ministering to the development of the whole person - spiritual, physical, and emotional. Presently, there are SIFAT graduates working with various denominations, mission organizations and indigenous Christian groups in 70 countries throughout the world.
