As you are new to this process, you are probably not aware of the "LISTS GLOBAL" command that can be used with Listservs. Sending this message to a Listserv will instruct the Listserv to send you a list of all the discussion groups that it is aware of in the world.
Remember to send this command to the Listserv, and not to the discussion group. Thus you could send the message "LISTS GLOBAL" to mailto:LISTSERV@AMERICAN.EDU (*** DO NOT send it to DEVEL-L@AMERICAN.EDU !!!***). Be prepared for some large responses, as there are thousands of discussion groups in the world. You could then perform a search for keywords such as AFRICA, DEVEL, etc.
Hope that this helps.
Neil Irwin.
