International shortwave radio station HCJB, the Voice of the Andes, is
planning to inaugurate a new weekly radio program devoted to an
exploration of issues affecting the poor. The program will air each
Monday beginning January 6.
Currently, we plan to provide information on poverty issues such as
hunger, homelessness, refugees, health concerns, micro enterprise
development and other appropriate topics. We also plan to focus on what
various social service groups are doing world wide to address these
issues. Since HCJB is a Christian radio station, we will also be
focusing on the Christian approach to these needs. However, we will not
be limiting our features to only the work of religious groups in this
area.
We have already been able to obtain some material from a variety of
relief and development agencies, both religious and secular. Some
agencies have provided us with radio public service announcements,
radio documentaries, etc. Others have provided videos about their work
from which we will dub the sound and edit into a radio format.
We are in need of additional sound/video material. If your agency has
radio or TV spots, videos, speeches or interviews with/by staff members
dealing with appropriate issues, etc., I would like to receive them.
(We only have equipment for NTSC TV system tapes). For audio tapes we
can use cassette, CD or reel to reel formats.
If you have any such material which would be useful for this program,
please be in touch. I am interested in using your group's material.
Thanks. --Ken MacHarg
