" The Nakdong River is our Life "Korean people havelived together with Nokdong River for several thousands years. The river has done as a role of drinking water for 0.1 million peole such as Kyungnam province people,Pusan citizen. We have thought river is so precious for people to live in. It has been our basement of our life.
The Nakdong river provide good rest for several kinds of migratory birds and there are good balanced ecosystem. So we have said that "The River is our life".
After construction of estuary of Nakdong river, there have been so many accidents such as phenol accident in 1991, detection of poisonous pesticides and heavy metal able to cause cancer in 1993,stink accident in 1994 in Nakdong River so Pusan,Kyungnam Province people's interesting come to be encreased day by day.
But that river is threatened to crisis like light standing in front of wind. It is very that plan to construct the industrial complex at Wichon area in middle of Nakdong river, with very huge size. Eventhough 0.1 million people drinking Nakdong river in Kyungnam province get enraged, Kim president and administration are driving that plan. Because they think only president ellection, they are considering Daegu and Kyungbuk Province citizen's voting.It means that they are thinking environmental problem politically.
We couldn't stand any more. We organized one group called "Pusan citizen countermeasuring commmittee to prohibit the Wichon Industrial Complex" constituted with women,old,labor,environment,traffic,culture,citizen groups and so on 160 groups in Pusan,Kyungnam province since last year. We organized the symposium,conference by citizen to save river and to make the policy of the improvement of river's quality,visiting the "Blue House(president's official residence)","The ministry of construction and traffic" and "The ministry of environment" several times,doing signature movement and campaign and research to know the condition of river's situation and so on.
What we are insisting is as follow
1.We are objecting the construction plan until when the situation of Nakdong river is improved to 2nd degree(BOD 3ppm)
2.The government should establish "the special law" to recover the quality of Nakdong river.
3.The government should proclaim the area of extract the river as a drinking water "special area should be protected"
4.The factory exploiting the polluters polluting the river should be moved to another area.

We love Nakdong river and are making a effort to protect all of the rivers on the world. River is a resource of people,animal,plant and any kinds of life on the world to live in. We send our solidarity mind to save important river, Nakdong river to Korean people. Korean government should give up "Wichon Industrial Complex" plan and try to make a effort to save "the Nakdong River". We will work together with K.F.E.M until when the quality of Nakdong river is improved, at least 2nd degree(3ppm) and until when that plan,destroying the earth,is withdrawn.
