Seasons greetings!I apologize for the intrusion, but I'd like to ask for assistance and do some e-networking. I'm currently enrolled in the Master's program in Intercultural and International Management at the School for International Training (http://www.sit.edu). In June of next year, I'll be starting the practicum phase of my program, where we're required to work in the field for six months to two years.
I was wondering if anyone knows of interesting community-based development organizations or projects in the education sector, perhaps (but not necessarily) incorporating a gender and/or an IT/telecommunications component. I'm particularly interested in the development of community computing centers and the educational programs that can be run through them. I'd like to be based in Asia, Latin America, or Africa, but I'm very flexible geographically. Although it would be great if I could find a paid position, I'm interested in volunteer and internship opportunities as well.
As for the type of job, I'd be most interested in doing training or project management. Before coming to SIT, I did database management for a couple of years in the national office of the American Lung Association, and before that I worked in the National Center for Children in Poverty at Columbia University's School of Public Health. I'm currently on the executive committee of GhaCLAD, a group that's organizing a conference on distance education in Ghana next spring, and I recently joined the advisory council of Friends World Program, an experiential intercultural college program (and my alma mater).
I have taken or will take courses in gender and educational development planning; training; project design and planning; financial management; research and evaluation; intercultural communication; sustainable development; organizational behavior; conflict transformation; and strategic management. Of course, I can provide more information about my skills and background upon request.
Even if you don't know of specific opportunities, I'd be very interested in speaking or corresponding with folks to help focus my thinking and learn more about the field. If you know of anyone who might be willing to help, please feel free to forward this message to them.
Thanks and happy holidays, Max Freund
P.S. My apologies if you've received multiple copies of this message, since I'm sending it to several different listservs and a number of individuals.
