ICIMOD Launches Revised Homepage
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development
(ICIMOD) has launched a much expanded and enhanced Homepage
on the World Wide Web at <http://www.icimod.org.sg>. In
keeping with its mandate of "documentation and information
exchange for sustainable mountain development", and in order
to share its knowledge, ICIMOD first launched a Homepage in
April 1996.
ICIMOD generates and compiles an enormous volume of
information on sustainable mountain development in the Hindu
Kush-Himalayas. The revised Homepage is restructured into
an easier to use and more attractive format. The revised web
pages provide comprehensive sources of information on the
Centre's programmes, initiatives, achievements, and impacts;
sustainable development issues in mountain areas, with a
particular focus on the Hindu Kush-Himalayas region; and
links to a significant number of other relevant
institutional, thematic, or programme-related web sites
worldwide.
The revised Home Page includes several features that should
be of interest and use to those interested or involved in
sustainable mountain development.
- Mountain Focus - comprehensive information on strategic
areas of mountain development, such as, biodiversity,
forestry, rangelands, water resources, watersheds, gender
concerns in mountain areas, indigenous knowledge,
participatory natural resources' management, agriculture,
energy issues, geo-informatics, infrastructure and risk
engineering, tourism, enterprise, poverty, social
infrastructure for development, and soil conservation and
fertility management
- The Hindu Kush-Himalayas - an overview of the region,
describing its problems and constraints, and information and
links to web sites on the eight regional member countries of
ICIMOD (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India,
Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan)
- Sustainable Options - best practices and alternative
technologies for mountain areas related to mountain
agriculture, participatory natural resource management,
water conservation, drudgery reduction for women, indigenous
knowledge, sustainable energy use, land and soil management,
and mountain tourism
- Project Profiles - profiles of ICIMOD's ongoing projects
as well as projects completed since 1996
- Publications on and from the HKH - publications produced
by ICIMOD
- Work Programmes and Annual Reports - full texts of
ICIMOD's four-year work programmes (1995-1998 and 1999-2002)
and annual reports (1995 to 1997)
- A picture gallery of photo visions of the Hindu Kush
Himalayan region and a search facility will be added
shortly.
The Home Page of ICIMOD has moved to a new location <
http://www.icimod.org.sg/> which is in Singapore on the
server of the IDRC-supported PanAsia, but the web pages can
also be accessed via the old address
