Dear hearts and gentle people. I received Douglas' note## some time earlier, and had composed the following reply. This time, however, I d/l *before sending, and thus became aware of the almost schizoid aspects of my interlocutors' personae: sanctimonious for you, the Public, and cheerfully laid back when it doesnt matter. I have no idea what kind of developmental work he does, but I am seriously concerned for the consequences to Tamaulipas. If this worthy list prefers action at a distance to words, so be it: there may yet be an opportunity for timely intervention.## Anyone on Digest mode, or reading via Jeff's archives at WU, of course, will not have received it. I have therefore appended it in full.

Need a useful reminder? Take Your Time...
I would much rather keep the conversation on list (and it would be nice if you could repost your note there too, just to balance the crap- shooters) -- as you might gather from my latest, I believe its *3*, not you or me, who gains most from any exchange -- whether we exchangers can ever 'verify' that or not. We are her 'priors,' if you like, not her contemporaries, since she (collectively) does not speak.
(Just why this aspect of 'lurking' doesnt seem to dawn on anyone else is a mystery. One would suppose that in the total absence of data, we would adopt the most satisfying interpretation rahter than the most cynical - but no.)
In any case, you have made yourself a *role; I can only advise you to hang out on list and play it to the full. Whether you 'really' think Im > more sincere than perceived
or not, I accept your apology as evidence that you do think about what you're saying, and can therefore *be the kind of 'Vygotskian' protagonist that the dialectic calls for (maybe even better than a defensive naif) -- but I cant coach you backchannel and be upfront simultaneously.
Altho I posted before downloading, it looks like I may have answered some of your questions -- but if not, it will do the list far more good if you can follow up "in light of the recommendation" that you *believe it can. There are enough Christines and RNNs zealously protecting they- know-not-what already.
Btw, did you happen to find my last effort in the archives? A longish piece in mid-September, as I recall. I was saying very much the same thing then, but it might be entertaining to compare the monological with the dialogical approach ;-)
Cheers, kerry

Hi Kerry,
This is not posted to DEVEL-L and I'm not going to answer any more of your posts to me there until you and I arrive at a better understanding, if that's possible. Perhaps (just perhaps) your involvement was more sincere than perceived and if so, I could have been more open to developing an interchange with you. In any case, I did have what was to me an important deadline to meet and didn't, in part due to the time spent on this thing with you, and in part due to this being a new office, where I lack help at this point.
I should have been at the International Agrarian Reform event held this week not far from here, and didn't finish my presentation in time. (I'll send it in, but without the international exposure - people came from 24 countries and the event was inaugurated by Mexico's President). In any case, the projects themselves are what count and the damage is done.
If you are interested in developing a constructive interchange, let's do it off list and I'll take it as far as it goes with you. We'll need to do it on a basis of mutual respect and I am hoping to hear from you soon. If we accomplish this, we can let DEVEL-L know that we've become the best of friends.
I *would* like to know a bit more about you and your background. You can even email me a digital photo if you have one. I await your reply, off list.
A new day is dawning.
