An on-line experience which is being billed as the "largest collaborative Internet event ever" will take place on February 8: "24 Hours in Cyberspace," the creation of Rick Smolan, best- selling author of the "Day in the Life..." book series. His company, Against All Odds, has teamed up with the largest computer and information services corporations in America to create an extensive World Wide Web site containing stories of how "cyberspace has changed lives."Over 100 photojournalists have been sent out around the globe to get pictures of sites and people whose lives have been greatly affected. Smolan says: "The value of this project is to prove that the Internet is not about companies, it's about people." One of those to be featured is VITA's VITASAT earthstation operating at the remote Kibidula Farm Institute near Mafinga, Tanzania, where an innovative communications connection has permitted the local construction of light aircraft used to shuttle doctors between villages and provide technical assistance. The earthstation allows email to and from the Internet to be sent and received when the low-orbiting satellite "passes" over Kibidula.
Visit this web site for more information on the event and all the news, photos, even audio on Kibidula and other sites/people February 8:
