PHOTOVOLTAIC (PV) DESIGN & INSTALLATION April 8 - 12, 1996, Asheville, NC
Participants in the PV Design & Installation workshop learn how to use PV (photovoltaic) technology to produce their own electricity from the sun through the practical design and installation of PV systems. Participants learn system sizing, site analysis, hardware specification and component selection. The workshop covers typical applications and case study examples. Participants install an operational system in the field and learn safety precautions and the proper use of tools. This workshop is for those seeking basic introductory PV information. It is also appropriate for individuals who wants to use PV or those seeking employment in the solar industry.
TOPICS INCLUDE:
£ Home Applications £ Basics of Electricity £ Solar Site Analysis £ PV System Components £ Energy Efficient Appliances £ PV System Sizing £ Component Specification £ Basic Electrical Wiring £ Safety Procedures £ Solar Water Pumping £ PV for Lesser Developed Countries
OTHER ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
£ Tours of PV Residences £ Industry Representatives £ Laboratory Exercises £ Field Installation
Cost: $450 Tuition

MICRO-HYDRO ELECTRIC WORKSHOP April 19 - 21, 1996 Asheville, NC
This workshop teaches how to design a fully functional micro-hydro system. In this particular workshop, emphasis will be placed on small DC turbines which provide AC and DC power. Learn site evaluation, including how to measure and estimate head and flow. Perform preliminary system sizing for mechanical and electrical power generation of 50 watt to 100 kilowatt capacities. The workshop will include field exercises and tours of operational systems.
TOPICS INCLUDE:
£ System Components £ Turbine Types £ AC and DC Systems £ Site Analysis £ System Design £ Battery Storage £ Controls £ Trouble-Shooting £ Maintenance £ Case Studies
Cost: $300 Tuition
