Here in Kingston, Ontario, Canada we have quite a number of poor people, in quite a large section of the city which urgently requires economic development (North Kingston). Malnutrition used to be an "African" problem; now we have it here.
I would like to think that it would cost us less to send money to "Third World" development projects, allowing them to use the money for local workers, than it would cost us to fly a Canadian or American down there to help. They would probably get "more bang for their buck."
In the meantime, we need volunteers to stay here in Canada and help us with our own problems. (not ruling out a few that may wish to experience other cultures and help out where needed).
Of course, I'm no expert.
