The basis of your argument is rooted in the myth that technology will always be able to stay one step ahead of the environmental degradation it causes. Secondly, what is wrong with placing limits on consumption, population etc. in order to ensure a quality of life? I for one do not relish the idea of taking in my daily sustenance in powdered form in lieu of reasonable limits so that an over-consumptive, capitalist society can increase it's market size. Do you believe that we should have limits on hunitng and fishing, i.e. deer season, or should everyone be able to go out and shoot as many as they want whenever they want? What would be the consequences of such foolishness? Of course technology might one day be able to construct deer clones......
