Conference on "Technology and Development: Strategies for the Integration of Gender" Amsterdam, June 6th, 1997

If you are curious of the advantages of the integration of gender issues in your technical projects. If you are curious about examples of how incorporating a gender perspective can actually improve the implementation of projects. If you want to know practical ways of dealing with gender problems. Then our conference will probably interest you!

THE CONFERENCE

TOOL is finalizing a two-year project which was specifically designed to find ways to integrate gender issues in technical projects. The TOOL project, entitled "Gender, Technology and Economic Empowerment", was conducted by Dr. Saskia Everts and developed gender analyses, as well as concrete tools for use in technology development and in small scale enterprise development.

The results of this project will be presented during a one-day conference on June 6th 1997, held in Amsterdam. Moreover, gender & technology experts from other organizations will be presenting their latest findings and instruments as well.

Focus of the Conference

to share new Gender and Technology instruments and innovative strategies for use by intermediate organisations. to illustrate the importance of including gender issues in technology-related development work, to demonstrate some promising new strategies to do so, to discuss the state of the art' (problems; strategies; success stories; success variables) regarding gender, technology and development, to identify future needs in this regard.

Fields of the conference

Gender, Technology and Micro and Small Scale Enterprises (MSE' s). Gender and Agricultural Technology. Gender, Energy and Environment.

PRECEDING EXPERT WORKSHOP

Preceding the conference, on June 5th, a small workshop will be held with a restricted attendance. This workshop will bring together some experts working in the field of gender, technology and development.

Focus of the Expert Workshop

to define the main issues regarding gender, technology and development, to evaluate the strategies with which to approach the various issues and to identify the initiatives that are needed next in this field.

Overall purpose is to formulate recommendations that will be conveyed to the relevant actors; among which the funding agency of the conference: the Dutch government.

Workshop participants will present the main outcomes of the workshop to the larger audience of the conference.

Participation

If you would like to participate in the expert workshop, please send us before February 15th 1997, a resume of your experience and activities on gender and technology. If you are interested in giving a presentation either in the workshop and/or at the conference, please send us an abstract (max. 500 words), before February 15th 1997. A selection of presentations and workshop participants will be made before March 31th. We are looking forward to your contribution!

Conference fee

The conference fee is Dfl. 60,- including lunch, coffee, tea, the conference reader and the conference report. (Foreign) students will get a 50% reduction. It is also possible to order only the conference reader for Dfl. 20,-.

The conference and workshop will be held in English.
