Dear Friends,

Reading the messages sent to the GROWTH ILLUSION Seminar, it became very clear that discussing this issue just theoretically will not work.To demonstrate, among scholars and concerned economists, that the current model will lead to disaster is easy. The problem will be alert the professional economists, who work with the banks, with the financial system, and change their minds and their bosses'. I know this very well because I work at the Brazilian Central Bank and I know that its directors are all Ph.D. from American universities, and they all believe that the real world is very different from the academical discussions about the sustainability of capitalism. And as they believe it, when they leave the Central Bank they always go to work with Salomon or Safra Brothers, and make money. These economists deal with billions of dollars every day, and in other richest countries the amounts are even hugger. Economics for some is a social science, for others is just a profession where they sell their knowledge for the moneyowners so both groups get richer. Considerations about population and nature are not invited neither welcome.

So, the defy today is how to take all those considerations - evident enough for us but invisible for most people, and make them noticeable by the population, and then by the government. This is my current objective here, in Brazil and through the Internet. Of course that there are other people working to hide these truths, and their media resources are endless, while ours are very limited... Would you help me, please? This incredilbe cultural job must be accomplished worldwide - and fast - or it will be useless for every one.... Cheers, Joaquim
