POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Department: Environmental Studies Program/and a Social Sciences department in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (.50/.50 FTE). Title: Assistant Professor Starting Date: August 18, 1997

Length of Appointment: 9-month tenure-track faculty position.

Salary Range: $40 - 48,000 annually

Duties: Full participation in the teaching, research and service responsibilities of the Program and cooperation with related programs throughout the University. The teaching must include a commitment to teach in an interdisciplinary undergraduate program in~environmentaI studies, and specifically to teach a course in environmental policy and undergraduate core courses in the Environmental Studies Program.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D in economics or a Ph.D in another relevant social science discipline; research or work experience in economic approaches to environmental studies. A demonstrable commitment to a career in research, writing and scholarly participation at conferences and other venues, and a commitment and/or research of efforts to obtain external research funding. Ph.D in hand by Spring, 1997. Quantitative skills accompanied by the ability to communicate with specialists in other disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications: Interest in developing a course dealing with international environmental issues.

Application: Application shall include letter of application, resume or vita, three letters of recommendation, and samples of written research: articles, delivered scholarly papers, dissertation chapter (if available), description of research currently involyed in.

Deadline: Initial review of applications will begin on 11-30-96 and will continue until the position is filled.

Interviews: Selected applicants will be interviewed at the American Economic Association Conference in January, 1997 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Otherwise, interviews will be held at the University of Kansas.
