I think that we're mincing words here, and thus missing the point. While you may define capitalism as only a system of finance of production, I define capitalism as the basis of our economic/business systems. When people discuss current events like AT&T laying off 40,000 people, and then giving the CEO a huge bonus, many will shrug their shoulders and say, "that's business." In this country, business=capitalism, business is driven by over-consumption and exploitation of resources, and business is driven by capitalism...I don't think that it's a huge, or unwarranted stretch to attribute the externalities of business to system that business in this country is based upon.
