Yo Campers!I know that, given all the books we've read and all that writing we've had to defend, that it is easy to "rise to the bait" whenever someone dangles a theoretical argument in front of our noses, but I don't believe this is the most appropriate forum for these debates.
There's no need to wax dramatically about "give me debate or give me death", Mr. Diamond. There's a huge Internet out there just waiting for you to establish a forum of your own. (Please let us know, in a short note, when you do.)
It's not that I'm not interested in what you have to debate, or that I'm trying to "skirt these issues", it's just that I've heard it a thousand times -- unfortunately too often in this forum which is intended for other purposes.
VITA has done a good job and a great service in filling this much needed niche, let's not spoil it.

Um.. let's take a look at what Rafe and Vicki were so kind to post:
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF DEVEL-L?
Through its online discussion forum, Volunteers in Technical Assistance (VITA) encourages the exchange of ideas and information on a wide range of issues and topics directly related to Technology Transfer in International Development; for example, specific technologies, communications in development, sustainable agriculture, women in development, the environment, small enterprise development, meetings, and book reviews.
