Tom,

It feels to me that there have been numerous requests for civility or a respectful list dialogue among professionals and global citizens. Those who post the insulting, diminishing, disrespectful posts must like it this way. Perhaps it is the only way they know how to converse. I teach conflict resolution, I've taught in gang conferences. There, another speaker described skill streaming conversation, a way to teach people how to talk to each other because of the number of "stare down" killings among kids.

At the root of it for me, is that violence doesn't start with gangs and drugs and guns. It starts with the way we talk to each other, the words we use, our tone and tenor. We can choose, we are not powerless or held in the grip of some enemy ideology on this one.
