Dear Robert,It has occurred to me that the more a farmer grows the more the farmer earns--if other farmers are not growing more and if people want to consume what the farmer produces. On the other hand, if other farmers grow more but the consumers don't want more overall, then the price goes down and the farmer loses his or her shirt. The latter often seems to be the case, which is probably a major reason why farmers don't own a lot of shirts. But this situation is not intrinsic and it depends more on what other people (other farmers and the consumers) do than on what the farmer does directly.
