WorldWID Announces Special Recruitment for Fellowship Opportunity in
Ukraine

WorldWID Fellowship in Small and Medium Enterprise Development

The WorldWID Fellows Program is recruiting a specialist in Economic Reform and Privatization for a one-year Fellowship program that will consist of a training and orientation in Florida and Washington, D.C. and a field placement with the USAID Mission in Ukraine.

The WorldWID Fellows Program is managed by the University of Florida under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Agency for International Development, Global Bureau, Office of Women in Development. The goal of the program is to increase the number of U.S. citizens with technical expertise and gender analytical skills that can be used in the implementation of U.S. foreign assistance programs. Persons with highly developed skills relevant to the strategic areas of the USAID are encouraged to apply. Those areas are: economic growth; democracy and governance, including human rights; environment; girls education; and population, health, and nutrition. The successful applicant for this position will have an interest in the field of women in development (WID) / gender and development (GAD) and expertise in a field applicable to Small and Medium Enterprise Development and Microfinance Programs.

We hope that the person selected will be able to participate in our gender and development training program from March 22 to May 5, 1998. The Fellow can then return to their home institution and leave for the field assignment in early September.

WorldWID Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $2,500, domestic and international travel to the field Mission and some other costs associated with the program.

Applicants should meet the following qualifications:

-Masters, Doctorate, or Law degree in a field related to business administration, public policy, economics, finance, or a related field; -Demonstrated expertise and technical knowledge of small business development, microenterprise and microfinance; - Ability to work in a team; to take leadership when necessary, and ability to deal with competing priorities; - Excellent English writing skills; speaking knowledge of Russian or Ukranian highly desired; - Experience working in a developing country, preferably the NIS; -United States citizenship; - Knowledge of Russian or Ukrainian culture; - Knowledge and/or experience in the field of WID or GAD; - Ability to begin this assignment in March or August 1998
