JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Member and Partner Services Coordinator

The Association for Progressive Communications (APC) is a network of networks who empower and support the efforts of global civil society through the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). Member and Partner Services Coordinator Job -------------------------------------------
This full-time position provides direct support to new and existing members and partners. Activities include being consistently aware of members/partners developments and needs; supporting them in their relationship to APC; implementing projects, plans and services to support members/partners; facilitating member staff exchanges and workshops; developing a plan for expanded membership; and developing and updating plans for membership growth and expansion.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES --------------------
1. COMMUNICATION - Create and maintain a newsletter of current members and partners activities, projects and development. - Develop and maintain internal documents of APC information.
2. FACILITATION - Facilitate information sharing among APC member and partner networks. - Facilitate members working more closely with one another. - Support capacity building programs on a regional basis. - Determine areas where members can make use of other members services and strengths.
3. MEMBER AND PARTNER RELATIONS - Orient new members to APC. - Prepare background documents and recommendations which will assist council in the review of conditional members. - Assist partner networks to become members. - When requested by members, train member staff in APC knowledge and activities. - Facilitate member staff exchanges. - Work with the ICT coordinator to identify members and partners technical needs and coordinate activities and programs to meet these needs. - Coordinate exchange of technical knowledge among members and partners; develop database of members (and their staff) availability to participate in an internal exchange program. - Support members and partners to develop technical services compatible with one another and with the latest Internet developments
4. MEMBERSHIP GROWTH - Develop and update plans for memberships growth and expansion. - Develop regional focal points for network assistance and growth.
5. TRAINING - Develop and implement workshops for members on a regional basis to address members requests for training in specific areas. - Initiate and participate in activities which support the business development of members. - Determine mechanims for institutional strengthening. - Provide support to networks shifting from connectivity provision to information and value-added service provision.
6. RESEARCH - Collect and make available documentation on members that went through substantial institutional changes and develop an analysis of the context that may serve as guidelines for other members undergoing changes. - Diagnose members and partners institutional and technical capacity - develop methodology to analyze systematicly members and partners strengths and weaknesses. - Survey and document internal expertise, either from current member staff or close APC friends.
7. INTERNAL RELATIONS - Develop manuals on membership guidelines, procedures, relationships, etc. - Oversee internal translation services: electronic and hardcopy. - Coordinate regularly with APC programmes activities. - Report monthly to APC staff. - Develop mechanisms for coordinating travel and guest accounts.
8. TECHNICAL SUPPORT - Supervise and support basic joint technical capacity building intiatives and associated systems. - Develop database of technical experts that might be available for consultation. - Support member and partner staff development; technical training for technicians and non-technical staff. - Develop database of public domain software on network development available on the Internet. - Research possibilities for developing an APC backbone.

QUALIFICATIONS --------------
Desired qualifications are:
1. Excellent social and people skills. 2. Fluency in two languages (English mandatory, Spanish recommended, other languages an asset). 3. Extensive intercultural experience. 4. A sound understanding of basic Internet technology and a proven ability to supervise technical staff and projects. 5. Experience managing an Internet Service Proivider (ISP) or other Internet-focussed orgnaization/business. 6. Understanding and knowledge of developments in the information and communications technology (ICT) environment. 7. Ability to organize and document large quantities of information. 8. Willingness to travel. 9. Willingness to work out of a member network office (choice of 25 countries).
