Quite right - the word "child" in particular has come to have a much more restricted meaning now, as if it is strictly a chronological-age- based word rather than simply someone who doesnt know what s/he doesnt know. Many church workers of the time would have had a hard time making your distinction between 'missionary' and 'teacher,' as well.
