<pre> Friends, Can anyone offer advice/contacts in this matter?

The local ISPs in Monrovia have gone under and Greg is trying to identify a way to get about 25 NGO organizations back on line. I have included the text of his recent email which gives a pretty clear picture of the situation. I believe this forum has the technical talent and expertise to help Greg - please take a few mintues to read over his message and apply some of your brilliant brain power to the situation. Please send suggestions to me as Greg has to pay long distance to access email and can't afford a large volume of posts.

In your message you asked about the local ISPs. There were two. In July, the best equipped ISP went down due to financial difficulties compounded by problems getting telephone lines from Telecom. In September, the second company went down due to technical problems. Now, they also are faced with money problems. The first company has merged with the relatively new cellular phone company, but they still have not come back on line.

I have become a one man task force for the International NGOs to find some way to get Internet access and affordable e-mail. I met with one of the companies yesterday, but things do not sound good. The INGOs are just beginning to look into the possiblity of setting up our own Internet access system.

We need to find out what is involved in setting up an Internet server and satellite link. Do you know where I can go to get this kind of information.

There are about 25 or 30 INGOs in Monrovia. I'm sure some of the embassies would like to participate in the system, as well. We may also be able to get some donor money to set it up.
