Conference Announcement and Registration Form
ENVIRONMENTAL ENHANCEMENT THROUGH AGRICULTURE
Boston, Massachusetts (USA) November 15-17, 1995
Organized by:
Tufts University, Center for Agriculture, Food & Environment
American Farmland Trust
Henry A. Wallace Institute for Alternative Agriculture
This conference features 60 talks and 15 displays on ways that
agriculture can help the environment, rather than simply reducing
the damage it imposes on the environment. Its goal is to foster a
new kind of strategic thinking about agriculture based on "win-win"
approaches that serve both agricultural and environmental interests.
Some examples of environmental benefits from agriculture that will
be discussed include:
o Agricultural refuges for wildlife
o Watershed protection and water quality enhancement
o Renewable alternative sources of energy
o Environmentally advantageous recycling of off-farm wastes
o Attractive sites for low-impact tourism
o Esthetically appealing landscapes
Presenters will deal with both general strategies and specific
examples of positive agriculture-environment interactions. They will
describe research, field projects, theoretical concepts, and
regulatory and policy issues, both in the United States and elsewhere.
