OMNI is a five-year project funded by the Office of Health and Nutrition of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to control and prevent micronutrient deficiencies in developing countries. The Nutrition Associate (NA) will work under the supervision of the OMNI Nutrition Research Technical Adviser to assist in developing and monitoring activities and provide support to the nutrition and micronutrient technical leadership activities of the OMNI Project. The NA will also provide administrative support and backstopping for specific research countries as defined by the Project Director. Specific responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Assist the Nutrition Research Technical Advisor, the Project Director and the USAID PHN Center, by providing information on global and country micronutrient activities and trends as required. * Assist in the collection and collation of global and country-specific background information on micronutrient activities. * Respond to technical requests and questions regarding nutrition and micronutrients and assist in the researching and drafting of technical papers and publications. * Assist in the development and maintaining of linkages with international agencies and private industries involved in micronutrient work. * Coordinate specific research country activities under the direction of the Nutrition Research Technical Advisor. * Coordinate relevant consultancies including assisting in recruiting consultants and developing scopes of work; drafting travel concurrence cables and coordinating travel; coordinate technical review, editing, approval and distribution of reports; and organize debriefings and consultancy evaluations. * Identify, retrieve and index current micronutrient publications for host-country counterparts in countries in which OMNI and USAID are active, * Assist in the development and review of nutrition technical aspects and components of OMNI materials with the Information Dissemination Technical Consultant. * Contribute to country or regional sections of quarterly and annual reports and other reports as requested. * Procure equipment and supplies for field activities in research activity countries. * Perform other duties as specified by OMNI Project Management.
Qualifications:
1. At least a Masters degree in Nutrition or a Bachelors degree in Nutrition and a MPH, with a broad knowledge and understanding of nutrition and food issues and experience working with micronutrients, and at least two years experience working in the field of international nutrition, health or development. 2. Ability to work independently and manage various projects on a daily basis with minimal supervision. 3. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with project staff, subcontractors, consultants, USAID/Washington and Mission staff, other USAID contractors, and representatives of international donor agencies. 4. Strong organizational and communication skills. 5. Proficiency in Spanish or another language besides English preferred. Excellent written and verbal English. Computer literacy with experience in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software required. 6. Developing country experience highly desirable.
