Dear members of Devel-l


        I would like to solicit information / suggestions to do some professional
networking later this Summer when I spend two weeks in Bogota, Colombia.  The
main purpose of my trip is to be married to my Colombian fiancee so I will not
have a lot of time for professional interests, but I would like to take
advantage of the opportunity.


        I am a PhD student in Rural Sociology at OSU and my main interests
focus
 around the role of NGOs in developing / implementing sus
tainable community development / natural resource management projects in Latin
America.  I recently completed my Masters thesis (a case study) that looked at
collaboration among NGOs and the public sector on a watershed management
project in the Dominican Republic.  My current interests are in researching /
promoting capacity building and effective inter-organizational collaboration
among NGOs and the public sector.


        While I am in Bogota, I would like to meet with academic researchers as
 well as administrators of NGOs or umbrella groups that coordinate NGOs.  My
purpose in soliciting these contacts is to: 1) explore the possibilities of
becoming a visiting scholar or researcher in the near future, 2) to identify
possible institutional support and / or topics for a dissertation, and 3) to
get a feeling for possible employment opportunities if we decide to relocate
to Colombia.


        I would also appreciate contacts / suggestions of individuals,
organizations,
 or research centers here in the US that have similar interests to those I
described.
