Perhaps  some  members of the list will know  of  qualified  col-
leagues who might be interested in the Country Director positions
outlined in the attached announcement. Since it is important that
the right individuals be placed in these important and  sensitive
positions, I am posting to several lists. So I will apologize  in

    Country Director Positions in Baku, Yerevan, and Tashkent
*****************************************************************
The  Open  Society Institute (OSI) seeks  Country  Directors  for
offices in Baku, Yerevan and Tashkent.

Program responsibilities include:

* disseminating information about OSI's small grants and scholar- ships programs; * soliciting grant proposals from local NGOs and individuals working in OSI's main program areas, and making recommendations on them to OSI, New York; * identifying and recruiting candidates for graduate programs in the US and Europe in law, political science, and journalism;

Administrative responsibilities include:

* recruiting, training and supervising local staff; * ensuring logistical support to expatriates traveling in-country on OSI missions; * supervising payroll, program related accounting, and all office maintenance.

The Country Director reports to OSI, New York, and serves as a liaison between the OSI-NY and local government, non-governmental agencies and international organizations.

Experience: 4+ years in management, and 2+ years work experience in the former USSR.

Education: BA. Masters preferred. Must be fluent in Russian. Knowledge of local language a plus.

Directors are expected to commence work by September 15, 1996.
